Before you replace any more tires, go to a reputable tire dealer and ask him to
check your alignment. Did you have the car realigned after all these tire swaps? Also,
what model Contour do you have? My memory is that they have 185/70-14 tires, but there are
also lots of different models. Finally, I cannot recommend Firestone FR680 tires. The
touring T/As might be a good option.

Alternatively, isn't a 96 model car still under manufacturer's warranty? If so, take it
directly to the dealer, and they will fix it. I doubt that the tires are causing your
vibration, and that is the major problem.
