Carlos is pretty right though...if I had to pick one tire brand as a whole as the "best" overall I would probably pick Michelin, even with their higher prices....
And Goodyear, especially their tires under $100 or so (relatively speaking), would be well near the bottom for me (I have seen some lousy cheap Goodyears) So even if he actually does work for Michelin, I don't think he is that far off base....and he does know what he is talking about when he talks tech!
That said, I would say go with BFG's on an Explorer...you can find them for very good prices (either the street version or the A/T) because they are all over, and few have complained about them besides a few on their treadlife. But anyways, that is straying form your original question...
