I also have an 87 GT, it had the original 205 and 215 60/15 setup and the amount of rubber on the road seemed to be to small. I just went to 225/50/15 and 245/50/15 and they fit very well and put much more rubber on the road. If I had changed wheels I would have gone to 16s. You need to watch the clearance on the rear struts. If you go to the 16's keep in mind the changing wheel diameter effects the outside diameter of the final tire and you need to stay close to the original rear tire diameter to have correct speedo readings.
