That is odd. I heard the RE71 is fairly good in the wet, especially wet cornering. But their main drawback is that they do not give any warning as they approach their limit on wet ashphalt. Many friends told me their car/tires would suddenly break away with no advaced warning. Pretty scary when you are on an off ramp. Another complain is they wear extremely fast due to the soft compound.
I was thinking about the RE71 but now I may go with BFG Comp TA or Dunlop 8000.
