I've been researching this very issue myself for the last 2 weeks. I'm opting for Nokian
Hakkapeliitta 1's ("Hakka 1's") (www.nokiantyre.com). They claim to be the best winter
tire and the tire guys I've been talking to agree. The alternative, of course, are the
Bridgestone Blizzaks, which everyone seems to agree work great, but I've heard differing
opnions with regard to their tread life: "just fine" to "the melt". The Nokians
have a 50k tread life, are studdable and I tend to believe that nobody knows snow
like the Finnish.
