Regarding Michelin XGT-Z -- I have these on a 911 I purchased used last year. I am not
thrilled with them as great-handling tires. The previous owner said he was "talked
into them" by someone he knew, and of all the tires he had had on the car, said they
were the poorest (he had mainly had Yoko AVS Intermediates). I've been doing some
research on tires since it's time to get a new set and my top choice now is the
Firestone SZ-50, followed by Dunlop SP-8000. Either one costs quite a bit less
than the Michelins. If you want nearly as good performance at 30% less, the apparent
hands-down favorite is the Dunlop D40 M2, if you can find them (appear to have stopped
production).
