Your last comment - "Don't drive that fast, and see no other benifit" is unfortunately the typical of un informed user. The fact that the speed rating equates to mph is meaningless to the general consumer. The "H" rated tires you said worked great have a 130mph limit, you can say differently but, you don't drive that fast either! What relates to the average driver is the performance characteristics of a tire that are directly related to the "speed rating". Those are the other things most people liked, or are looking for in a tire. The traction, ride quality, steering response, noise levels, handling capibilities, braking, accelerating etc., etc.. You are exactly correct in assesing you don't need a tire to carry you 150mph or more. But you do need a tire that can stop, turn, and generaly react as you need it to or want it to. That is the only consideration you should have when selecting a tire, as well as the vehicle manafactuer selected a tire with a specific "PERFORMANCE RATING" to come OE on a vehicle - there is a reason for that......all of the above!
