When test-driving 92 Mazda 323s, I got to compare the driving characteristics of different tires. Given the Mazda's relatively low torque, i can't exactly say that 175s affect wheelspin. But with 175/70/R13-size Michelin X-Ones and Toyo 800 Ultras, the cornering power improved a great deal over the 165-size tires one car had. What I can't tell, though, is whether this was due to the increased size, or a superior design. Probably both, but I am now certain that I will buy larger size tires in the future.
