Check the Universal Tread Guide number on the side: it should read something like (example only): 220AB - as compared to a "normal" tire with an index of 100, this tire should wear about 2.2 times more; its traction index is A (the best) and its temperature capability is B. These indices are just usual guides, and I have seen the tread guide as high as 600 on Michelin X-One (hence the unlimited mileage guarantee for six years), and as low as 160 on some performance tires (which tend to have shallower tread, softer compounds). Generally, the width of the tire (195 or 185 millimeters), should not make a huge difference, unless you compare, say, a 155 with a 225 mm.
