I purchased my 1995 Corolla in April of 1995. It came new with Firestone all season
radial tires. I live in Massachusetts. I had a problem with wet road traction from the
beginning. I wrote Toyota consumer relations in California but they replied that they
would take my comments for future improvements.
The tires would easily hydroplane even at 45 mph. The following winter I got stuck
in snow several times and could not make it home twice. I was shocked as to how
bad these tires handled in wet or snow conditions. The tires were O.K. on dry roads.
In December of 1996, I was angry when I got stuck in the first snow of the season.
I immediately had these tires removed and replaced with new Michelin Weatherwise
tires and I am very happy with their handling in all our weather conditions.
I gave the Firestone tires away with 40K miles on them. I considered them not only
unsafe but dangerous.
