I just upgraded my 1984 2M4's tires from the stock 215/60R14 to 225/45R16. The diameter difference is within 3/10". I used a 40mm offset and the tires stick out as much as they do stock. The rear rim comes close to rubbing, but rasn't yet. 16" looks good, too.
