1997 I30 PERFORMANCE

The Infiniti I30's 3.0 liter V6 engine is smaller and lighter than many others, resulting in a compact powerhouse of an engine. In fact, with the manual five-speed transmission, the I30 can outrun some of the competition's flagship V8s with their automatic transmissions. Makes you wonder what those other two cylinders are for!

The I30's engine boasts an impressive 190 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and with an automatic transmission, averages an equally impressive 21 mpg city and 28 mpg highway EPA. And with an 18.5 gallon gas tank, you have a cruising range of over 500 miles.
(EPA-estimated figures are for comparison purposes only. Acutal mileage may vary depending upon driving conditions.)

In order to design such an amazingly fuel efficient yet powerful V6 engine, Infiniti set out to find new ways of eliminating an engine's worst enemy: friction. By reducing the size of the crankshaft, the piston skirt area, and the thickness of the piston rings, unnecessary contact areas were reduced. And through a process known as micro-finishing, crucial parts are polished and coated with a friction reducing element called molybdenum. On engine valve stems, this coating can reduce wear to increase engine longevity. All this adds up to an engine that runs like clockwork, which you'll discover the minute you take it out on the road and wind it up.

Electronically Controlled Transmission
When you drive the I30, you'll notice a seamless transition between gears. This is accomplished through Infiniti's Interactive Transmission Control system. A system that actually learns your driving style and hydraulically adjusts to maintain transmission performance over time.

Four Wheel Disc Brakes w/ABS
The I30's four-wheel power assisted disc brakes, combined with an anti-lock braking system (ABS), helps you maintain steering control while braking, which can be a crucial advantage in an emergency situation. And to make a safe system safer for the enviornment, all of our brake pads are asbestos-free.

Rear Multi-Link Beam Suspension
The goal was to create a car with the ride and comfort of a luxury sedan and the performance of a sports sedan. The result was the rear Multi-Link Beam suspension. Designed specifically for front wheel drive cars, this system not only improves handling, but allows for more interior room. Every I30 also features front and rear stabalizer bars.

Two-stage Cooling System
Instead of one cooling system for the entire engine, Infiniti developed separate cooling systems for the cylinder heads and the cylinder block, which not only uses less water, it also provides more uniform cooling.
