David, in your reply to Nitto 450's - any opinions (9/01/97),
you recommended the the SP8000 or SP9000 over this tire, and
stated that the Nitto is a low cost and low tech option.
I agree with the phrase "you get what you pay for", but where
its easy to over pay for a brand name like Michelin, it is also
possible to get a quality tire at the low cost end. Now either
the Nitto is an inferior and poor quality and unsafe tire and
only worth the low price, or maby its a extra good value for the
money. You said its a low tech tire. Please explain what you
mean by that. Is the engineering or material used years behind
other tire companies? I post a message a couple weeks ago,
98 vw passat wheels and tires to performance, saying that I want
to use the delivered 15 inch wheels and all season tires during
snow months, and but either 16 or 17 wheels and put on them
performance tires that also are good on rain/wet roads. The only
reply I got recommended three tires, your sp9000, yoko avs-i
and the nitto nt 450. I read most all on this bbs and got the
impression that (1) the yoko was great on dry, but not good on wet
(2)the dunlop sp9000 is very good for some people and just good
for others and not so good for others (3) the nitto is unknowned
by all but two people, one who just got them, but didn't update this
bbs as to what the experience was, and ofcourse you who has some
knowledge of the engineering to be able to say its a low tech tire.
Please expand and share this information. I'am planning on buying
the nitto, but won't if you have information that I can use to
help me in my decision making process. Thanks.
