Sumitomo Cyclones?

I have a set of Sumitomo Cyclones (215/65R15's) on the front end of my 84 Z-28, and, while I like the way they handle, I am running into a few problems with them.
Has anyone else had problems with these tires? Specificly, I had to make a hard stop, and locked 'm up. The skid let a very large, very nasty flat spot on the tires,
and I'm now looking at getting new tires after buying these less than 2 weeks ago.. any ideas?
