Based on my reaserch the X-one should do well on ice and packed snow because of all of its sipes. The tread pattern is not great for deep snow, but this is what a snow tire is for. If you are looking for great deep snow traction out of a all season tire I would sugest the Michelin Energy MXV4 based on Consumer Reports Testing (Feb. 1998), but be prepared to spend money for it. I just got a set of X-ones and I live in Minnesota. I have not had them in the snow yet, but am looking forward to it.
