Wider Tires for Mercury Villager 205's to 215's?

I need to replace the 205/75's on my '96 Villager. I would like to have a little more rubber on the road. Also, the lower profile touring tires seem to have a lot more new tread and rubber technology.

Do you think I could go to 215/70's, say a Michelin X-One without any problems? Would my existing rims (5.5's) be wide enough? I know that the 215's are OEM on some Villager models, so I don't think I am going to have any problems with wheel well clearance.

Any comments would be appreciated.
