Know I'm jumping into a hornets nest here but, Ultra low profile tires are made mostly for performance reasons. Hence the very short sidewall. Usually made of softer rubber. Can't have your cake and eat it too! If you want smooth long lasting tires go to a touring radial, not performance tire. I betting you won't get the "LOOK" you want from them though. Kinda like buying a couch. You usually have to pick between the one that "LOOKS" good or the one that sits good. When you get older sitting is more important! I own an IROC-Z28. I don't use it to commute. Nice Olds 98 for that. I think the original answer is yes on the treadwear question.
