The torque sticks do work.... If used properly. I have used them myself and for the most part they're pretty darn accurate +-2 or 3 ft/lbs The problem is probably that you don't use a torque stick to remove the bolts and you had some lazy tire guy not want to walk over to get the torque stick and he/she just used the impact socket to tighten the wheel. You should find a new shop to give your business
