OE means original equipment. That is, the same brand and model as the original tires that came on the car. As to the first letter, why buy OE? Truthfully, most OE tires do not suit the needs of the individual buyer, in that they are a compromise. Usually better performing, quieter, and all around better tires can be found instead of OE. Personal experience...avoid most OE Goodyears...especially cheaper Goodyears. You pay for the name and the tires are awful.
I would also recommend buying from a seller like America's tire, if one is in the area (they are on-line too) They will match any of the clubs prices, and their service is better, and they actually know what they are doing most of the time! And they offer a much better selection!
