Sears (Goodyear) AquaHandler Safety

I 'barely' passed a state safety inspection. It was noted
that all the tires needed to be replaced soon. The
Aquahandlers had 37k miles out of the 65k warranty.
I rotated and balanced the tires every 6k; checked pressure
every month; wheel alignment adjusted yearly.
The next day I went to Sears to get my prorated warranty
fulfilled. This is when it was 'mentioned' to me that
the Aquahandlers were being discontinued as they are
considered 'unsafe' after the first 4/32 of wear. Further,
the comment was that they actually promoted hydroplaning.

Has anyone heard of this before? I double-checked the
NHTSA and Consumer Reports web sites -- nothing I could find.

Any suggestions/comments would help...
