no, poor alignment will cause uneven tire wear, but will not bend steel (or aluminum) wheel. your mechnic is most likely saying the rim of the wheel is slightly out of round. With 21,000 miles,you couldn't have possibly driven misaligned for "a long time". Bent rims (plural) is rather odd though, since a bent rim would almost certainly be the result of some sort of trauma (such as hitting a pothole or bumping a curb) to your wheels. Is your mechanic telling you he can't mount new tires, or can't balance the current one's? If you don't notice any other problems and your tire wear is fairly even, then I wouldn't worry too much. Hope this helps.
