Muscle Car Tires?

I have a 1968 Buick GS and want to put new tires on. The fellow who re-built the car put Uniroyal Rally GT (?) 245/60R14. I'm not impressed with the ride, can hardly feel the road. Original equipment on the car was either 7.75-14 or F70-14. As far as I've been able to tell the OD of the original tires was 26.2 inches. As far as I can tell I should be going with a 215 or 225/60R14. Anybody have an idea of what type I should buy?

Any help would be appreciated.
