Check the classified advertising section in the back of the car amgazines - Road & Track, Car & Driver, AutoWeek, European Car, etc.,etc.. There are listings people who do wheel repair and modification's. They have been known to perform such modifications as wheel widening. They will also help you determine the "cost effective" issue. As far as safe? - If you check with the wheel manufatuer, my guess is they will tell you not to do it! But there are alot of speed shops, high end machine shops, and performance related specialty shops that have been doing it for some time.
