You're right, that size is kind of uncommon. I skimmed through a tirerack ad quickly and only found a handful of tires in that size and they are expensive. Another option instead of going to a 196/60/15 is to try a 205/55/15. It is a (slightly) more common size. The 1 cm in extra width shouldn't cause any clearance problems (I would guess that the car manufacuter would build in at least .5cm all around for different driving situations), and the diameter is only .4" different than the original so you speedometer would be off much. A 195/60 would be .65" taller. For reference, my wife's Escort Gt came standard with a 185/60/15 and the original tire was about the only one made in that size. We have been using a 195/60 without any problem. Also, IMHO, Michelin's are way too expensive. Lastly, FWIW, I have used two different Yokohama tires on my Mustang without any problems.
