I own a set of Hercules G5000Z high performance tires 235/45 WR17. On the sidewall it sais "Reinforced" My friend who has the same tires only a different size does not have the label "Reinforced". I checked on the Hercules website, and my size is the only size that is posted as reinforced. What does this mean?

"Reinforced" is the European way of saying "Extra Load".

Tire standardizing organizations try to set up tire standards so the load tables all end at the same inflation pressure, regardless of size. For US P metric tires, it is 35 psi. For European passenger car tires, it is 36 psi.

However, vehicle manufacturers get themselves into a bind when they design a vehicle and there isn't enough room in the wheel well for the proper size tire, so they ask (or is that demand!) that the tire manufacturers agree to supply a tire that can handle a heavier load, which they called "Extra Load" or "Reinforced". What this means is the tire is capable of handling additional inflation pressure allowing the tire to carry additional load.

Hope this helps.

So I guess that also means beefier construction which results in better handling because I noticed how nice these tires take a turn on a car that weighs almost 4000lbs

Well, not exactly.

It has much to do about load carrying capacity, and little to do with handling, but there may be some side benefits that just come along.

Hope this helps.
