Topic: Michelin MX4 Rainforce/Weatherwise

Thanks for reading. I'm replacing a Michelin MX4 Rainforce, (nearly brand new), on my '91 Toyota Tercel because I rubbed against the curb turning right and damaged sidewall of right rear tire. Darn. I want another Rainforce because of good reports on wet weather driving, but nearby stores don't have in stock and I must buy it tomorrow or the next day. So NTB wants to sell me a Michelin Weatherwise on sale for $29 (!) plus usual chgs. It seems extremely cheap; is it really a Michelin?! They suggest that for that price, I should buy two, and put the good Rainforce in the trunk, replacing my donut spare, but that it's okay to put the Weatherwise opposite the Rainforce if I wish. What do you think? The puzzling thing to me is, I find only a couple references to the Michelin Weatherwise on the Internet, so can't do a comparison or learn anything about it. Seems odd there are so many Michelin tire references but not to the Weatherwise, so now I'm getting suspicious/curious, especially in view of the very low price. Before I'd heard of the Weatherwise, I called Michelin Customer Service asking for a recommendation, and they didn't mention it at all. If you have ANY advice, information, et cetera about my situation, I'd appreciate it muchly. Of course I'd love to get a tire for $29, but price isn't my biggest priority. Thanks! Joya.IP: Logged |

I also am not familiar with the Weatherwise. I do know that Michelin has contracts with several discount warehouses like Cosco and Sam's Club, where they manufacture a tire just to be sold at these locations. Like the Michelin X-One is essentially sold as the X-Metric at Sam's Club(a very similar tire). Call them back and get more information first. Yes, one new rear tire would be fine especially since you drive a front wheel drive car. I too only found a few references on the Weatherwise. Also, ask NTB to give you the background on how they sell the tire while many other stores do not(it may be one of those types of contracts).IP: Logged |

NTB is owned by Sears and sells a lot of tires that are made by the major tire companies. Pirelli,Michelin and Yokohama all make tires for Sears. That said, the Weatherwise is the lowest cost tire Michelin can make and it is in no way as good as the Michelin Rainforce tire. If you really have to get rolling and can't wait for the Rainforce I'd buy the Weathermaster and use it until you can get the Rainforce. Then you can toss that cheapo Michelin in your trunk for the spare. You have a nice car, keep it that way and stick with the real Michelin Rainforce.IP: Logged | |
