For moderate snowbelt ( I live in Boston, MA), so 80% is dry road driving, but my driveway is steep and icy.
Looking at Dunlop Winter Sport, Nokian Hakka 1, or Pirellis ( which ones, there are many ) ?
I would also like to have speed rating above Q, but not necessarily H, and 50 profile rather than 55 in a 16 in. diameter.
Tell me your experiences.
What's a good dealer ( any alternatives to tirerack ? )
Thanks for any help.

Also , did anybody use Michelin X M+S 330's ?
This is an H-rated tire, is it an older version of Pilot Alpin ?

The XM+S 330's were the predecessors of the Pilot Alpin.

We don't carry the Nokian tires, but I have heard wonderful things about them. I am sure someone else on this board will give you some input on them.

Pirelli makes the Winter 210 Snowsport in most popular sizes. The Winter 190 Snowsport is T-rated, but will not come in any 16" sizes.

I would go for the Pirellis. Its probably the most "performance oriented" snow tire.

vaskelovo,

I would recommend the Nokian NRW for you. It is well suited to the Boston climate and comes in several 50 series, 16 inch, H rated sizes. In dry weather it has excellent handling and road manners, but can also handle severe winter conditions without a problem. I know because I drive on them.

And yes there is an alternative to the Tire Rack. My company, www.eTires.com sells Nokain and several other brands of tires online just like the tire rack does, only we don't charge for shipping.

Thanks,

to e-tires president, no you dont charge for shipping but your tires are priced much higher than tirerack's tires! i priced out identical tires from e-tires and tirerack and tirerack was cheaper by over $25.00 even with their shipping included!
