I'm looking to for winter/all season tires for my BMW 330ci. I live in colorado so we maybe get 4-5 days of really bad snow, and this car has the sports suspension and is rear wheel drive. I've heard that the all season tires are worthless on the rear wheel drive cars, and winter tires are the best??? Any ideas Thanks judyIP: Logged |

Judy I also live in Colorado so you may want to follow my thread re: "Hakka 1 unstudded" from the Saab guy, as the responses may be pertinent to your tires. Do you drive up into the mountains in the winter? The winter driving in the mountains will increase your "really bad snow" days! I am no expert, but from what I have been able to figure out the Nokian Hakka 1 (studdable), Nokian Hakka Q (non-studdable), are good snow tires. The Blizzaks are also popular but may wear faster and the sipping and grip compound seems to be only on the surface, so when they wear off the grip of the tire is not as good. I have no personal experience. I have driven on studded Gislaved Nord Frost snow tires for about 10 years with good results, have never had a problem in the winter and I drive to the mountains frequently. Good luck. Judy, I have a 96 M3 and could not leave the garage with the performance tires on when it snowed - I live in the Chicago area. After researching snow tires, I selected Nokia Hakkas. All I can say is now I don't fear driving in snow. I've never gotten stuck and feel as in control as 4x4's. I can't say enough about these tires in the snow - they're great. However, they are not performance tires but I didn't get them for that.IP: Logged |

Fred, It sounds like you made a good choice. Do you have the Hakka 1's (studded or unstudded) or Q's? Also, did you go witha set of winter wheels and go to a narrower higher profile tire, or stay with the stock rims and OEM size? IP: Logged | |
