looking for tires for my 96 jimmy with P235/70R15 tires. I see fairly heavy snow in the winter, but also i want a quiet tire. I have had the bfg longtrail before and those are a bad choice in winter. am now considering the cooper discoverer H/T, pirelli scorpion A/S and michelin LTX M/S, and Toyo Tranpath S/U
any suggestions or experience with other good tires like this?
(prefer to stay with stock size)

I would suggest the Pirelli Scorpion A/T tire. It is great in snow, ice and rain and are still a quite tire. That is what I have on my SUV.

Discoverer A/T may be available in that size...
now considering the Toyo OpenCountry A/T ... higher treadwear rating than any other tire that i have considered, but still agressive and quiet looking

They have this sizes!
215/75SR15= 27.7 x 8.5 or 225/75SR15= 28.2 x 8.8
Both are darn close to yours 27.95 x 9.25

But I guess you are looking for that short fat look.

GMC

My 2001 Pathfind came with Toyo Transpath. I run completely highway miles, and after 27,000 miles, they have not worn as well as Bridgestone HT on my father-in-laws truck (same year, 22,000 miles). In addition, his truck handles much better. I will replace my tires with Michelin (Cross Terrain or LTX AT) or Pirelli Scorpion (AT or ST), possibly Bridgestone HP based on research and this forum. Michelin and Pirelli tires seem to be beyond reproach, simply get some more mileage from the Michelin for a few more $!!
