Past AROC national director. *Be sure to ask Tom about ice racing GTV-6's. He truly knows how to make 6's fly. His anti-dive kit is an inexpensive adjustable rear suspension for GTV-6's that flat out works. (Elder)

Alfa Ricambi
6644 San Fernando Rd.
Glendale, CA 91201
(800) 225-ALFA
Very extensive collection of OEM, reproduction and rare used parts. Prints 16-page newsletter, catalog. For years sponsored Alfa Club of Colorado but now is pulling ads from local clubs, although still offering parts donations for door prizes at events. We still like 'em. Includes John Shankle's line of high-performance products for Alfas. Many vintage parts, oddball stuff. *They are a good source for performance parts - a true wealth of Alfa "go fast" experience is embodied in this unique organization. They also import Sparco race seats, which are some of the best. Another division handles Japanese cars - let's just not talk about it. (Elder)

Remember the red Duetto in The Graduate? Ask Dale about his Duetto. Yes, it's the one from the movie. *Dale is well-known to Colorado Alfa enthusiasts. He has built many performance Alfas from mild to wild. He is another one whose motors typically run at the front of the pack. Dale has successfully raced Alfas for years. He quite simply knows how to make your Alfa go fast. (Elder)

Bill might be better known for his AROC contests and "TechToons," but restores Giuliettas to 100-point concours standards, one at a time after a day of teaching industrial arts. Those who have seen his work say Bill Gillham can fabricate anything out of metal and could probably pass the old touring master test of constructing a perfect sphere with only a hammer and a flat piece of metal as judges watched.

AROC SERVICES
Alfa Owner Back Issues
Glenna Garrett
AROC National Office
2468 Gum Tree Lane
Fallbrook, CA 92028
Available through AROC's national office, issues since 1958 may be ordered. Type or print your address along with volume and issue number and date, and enclose a check or money order for the amount of the purchase (prices include postage and handling). In the few cases of very rare issues (usually from the earliest years of publication), you will be sent a photocopy instead of an original). If you require articles regarding a specific model or topic, ask about the index published by an AROC chapter. It was scheduled updated, but no firm information was available as we "go to press."

AROC Tech Notes
Alfa Romeo Owners Club
c/o Ralph Moorhouse
312 Bless Circle
Richboro, PA 18954
First in a series of technical reviews is a Spica booklet produced by Fred DiMatteo and John Hertzman. Reprints of factory, club and chapter articles from by various authors, the tech notes assemble rather than dissect information. Sometimes one article will contradict another (especially with the controversial Spica mechanical injection units), so there's a large caveat to ponder, but mostly it's a compendium of "more than one way to skin a cat." $20 includes shipping and handling. Include your AROC membership number (the first five digits on your Alfa Owner mailing label) when ordering.
AROC Technical Hotlines
Open to all AROC members, the hotlines are both technical questions and mechanical emergencies. AROC Chapters
Did you realize that many chapters offer subscriptions to AROC members or that you can belong to more than one chapter? Velocissima (New England) and Alfa Bits (Oregon) always contain technical information. i Saluti (St. Louis) is another exceptional one, and about 32 chapters produce newsletters on a regular basis. Alfa Owner contains a list of chapters and contacts. The Oregon Alfa clubhouse is a must stop web site. Look under our "links" to other Alfa sites for a path to the clubhouse. Kudos to Oregon for a job well done!
ART & ARTISTS
Two schools: One is "art" and the other "illustration." The illustration style is typical of most advertising with near-photo realism. Not very creative from an art standpoint, but very marketable and appealing (as would be almost anything from the Norman Rockwell school). Bill Neale, Ken Eberts and Jay Koka are core "illustrators" which is not a knock but a definition of their work. Dennis Brown almost straddles the two categories because his skill with watercolor paint itself can overshadow whatever object he's illustrating. Randy Owen, using violent splashes of primary colors, makes the break into what many would consider "art," instead of "illustration." The objects are identifiable, but not photo-like representations - they're more concerned with emotional, fleeting, impressions of movement and power than accurately depicting the tire treads. Choose and enjoy!
Gallery Automania

One of the first such galleries, it also features some very gifted people you never heard of because they work in the Detroit area as auto stylists or in other studios by day, becoming unshackled artists by night - including the gallery owner!

BORT, Inc.
Jack Juratovic
2826 Aurora
Lake Orion, MI 48360
Created various paintings and prints, ranging from Alfa Romeo Monterey poster art to a painting of Jim Ibold's 8c2900, priced from about $100 to $10,000. His technique is not polished, almost a primitive, but distinctive and sells fairly well.
Randy Owens Studio
9606 Percission Way
Vienna, VA 22182
(703) 938-8692
Prints by Owen of his painting of Roberto Guerrero's Alfa Romeo debut at Detroit with the "Spirit of Detroit" statue behind the Alfa Romeo. Limited edition of 125 at $225 each. Brightly colored paintings with much movement.
Dennis Brown
662-B Shoppers Lane
Covina, CA 91723
Not the most technically detailed, but great skill and craftsmanship with paint and a brush. Surfaces have almost a luminous quality. Will always sell well because he's "arty" enough to not look like a technical illustrator, but still conservative in his representations for mass appeal. Bill Neale falls into a similar category.
Ken Eberts
PO Box 613
Temecula, CA 92390
His paintings of Victorian architecture always seem to have old cars in front of them. Or is it the other way around? Either way, his black 8c2900 painting and print is of interest to Afisti. Can't draw people worth a darn (look like cardboard), but neither can Ken Dallison or Syd Mead. Appealing settings and paintings, seems to be a gifted architectural illustrator at heart.
Charles Dooman
"Chromeo" of a Sprint Speciale grille by Charles Dooman, is available from 500 signed and number prints for $100 each through Automotive Images, 8512 Chalet, Wichita, KS 67207-5220 or call (316) 683-1989. Near-photo realism, with no strong personal style getting in the way.
Dave Hammond
383 Eileen

(810) 338-6381
Former professional illustrator and art director at General Motors, now an ad agency creative director for Ford plus AROC member and editor of Alfa Giornale, past national director. Not top notch, but only one step below. About one-sixth the price of the big guys because he paints at home only when he feels like it, after working all day with tight schedules in an agency studio.
