ehwangMy stock tires are 225/60r16, thinking about going to 245/50r16. The wider tires are about 3.8% smaller and would result in my speed reading 3.7% faster than im actually going so id be going about 53mph when my speedo reads 55mph. There shouldnt be any problems with this setup, but my main question is that i have 16x7.5 rims, would there be any major tire bulge w/ 245's on those rims? thanks
donfromnaplesI don't know what you drive to tell you about tire bulge, but look up the tires you want and get the specs. Then measure on your car the overall diameter and tire width to get a good idea about how these new tires will fill your wheel well. I would not expect a bulge since most car companies(and trucks too of course) leave plenty of extra clearance for the wheels/tires. Typically, a 3.7% difference in overall diameter is not noticeable by your computer, ABS, etc... It should give you a little more torque off the line due to a slight "change" in gearing. For instance, running a 3.08 rear and changing tire diameter like you want to will yeild about 3:18:1 overall gear ratio. Nice extra benefit as far as I am concerned. I did that exact thing on my last 3 cars and did enjoy the extra performance at the stop lights.
