cmoreira I have a 97 VW golf with the stock steel wheels with 195/60/14 tires, some came with 185/60/14.
I want to used these rims for snow tires (Bridgestone Blizzak ws-50) in the 175/65/14 size. Will the tires fit on the rims without popping off or looking funny. I know the circumference is only 1% off, and I can live with that.
I am hopping the narrow footprint will grip better in snow and ice...
Marc It's sound right for the snow performance to
get narrower tires, but not right as far as
ice is concern! Wide tires with very good
rubber and siping is better on ice than
narrow tires, more good rubber you put on an
icy surface better the results are!!!!
The biggest drawback for you going narrower
is the millage, all the blizzak tires are
already prone to wear very very fast, you
won't help yourself being narrower. On top
of that, the germans made cars wears tires
faster the others (very well tuned suspension
and handling properties).
