BobI have a 97 Subaru Legacy wagon in need of new tires. It currently has 185/R70/14's. Will moving up to 195/R75/14's effect the transmission? I had heard that changing the original tires on an AWD vehicle may damage the transmission. Does anyone have any insight? Thanks! Bob
CraigHi Bob. I don't know about the tranny, but upsizing to 195/75/14 will affect your speedo by about 4 mph. When the speedo reads 60, you will actually be going closer to 64. Watch out for speeding tickets. My guess would be that as long as all four tires are the same size, the tranny should be OK, but I don't know for sure. Never tried it and don't know anyone who has.
