Lots of snow tires are better than standard fare for ice and snow, but not so good in wet and dry. Check Nov. 98 and Nov. 99 Consumer Reports for Reviews. If lots of slush, you probably want something with good wet traction, like the Michelin Alpins. They have been upgraded this year to Arctic Alpins; the new ones have better ice and snow traction, but lose a little in the wet cornering.
