Bigger wheels use lower profile tires, shorter sidewalls flex less under hard cornering and the theory is that less flex equals better handling. the low profile tires usually give a rougher ride though as the sidewall of the tire acts a bit like a spring to reduce bumps getting transmitted into the cabin
