What will happen when I change 235/75R15s for 215/75R15s?

I have a 1981 half ton Chevy Suburban that is used to haul my family and our 16' boat on a trailer. We have a set of 235/75R15 tires which are wearing and I would like to change to a set of 215/75R15 tires. What can I expect to find different in terms of handling, traction, steering and safety? I was recently given a set of 225/70HR15 tires in good shape. What can I expect from the use of these tires? Thank you from the sunshine coast.
