Apparently the xm+s will be discontinued and will be replaced with the artic alpin.
The new artics carry over similar characteristics as the xm+s except for the "Y" siping. However, the artics have better traction on ice and I believe they are quieter and more expensive.
I myself haven't net decided which brand to buy (confused).
Michelin xm+s
Pirelli Winter ice (directional)
Nokian Hakka 1 or Nrw-H
