Tires for my Corvette

I purchased a 1977 Corvette a few months ago and it needs tires. I have also noticed that it has lots of traction problems when we have rainy weather. I am looking for a good replacement tire for the vette. I live in Dallas Texas and have very little knowledge about tires. I also want the sporty look the car deserves. I would appreciate any help anyone can be.
