Tires for a 97 Civic Lx sedan

My car came stocked with 185/65R/14/85S. Can someone explain the 85S part of the tire?

I want to improve gas mileage, road handling, and the looks (lower profile). What size tire should I go for first? I was thinking of going for the 195/60/14s, or if need be, the 195/60/15s. I was also thinking of Bridgestones or Pirellis. Any other recommendations/comments are welcome. Thanks!
