Can I use T-rated tires on my Volvo S70? I understand standard equipment is V or H.
What inexpensive, good tire anyone recommend?

It's NEVER recommended to install a tire with a lower performance rating that what came from the factory. Doing so will not only lower the safe top speed of the vehicle but will also reduce the handling capabilities of the vehicle at every-day speeds. That can be pretty dangerous when trying to avoid a collision at 50 mph.

Some tires you may want to consider are the Kumho Ecsta ASX (KU21).

V rated tire means you can go cruise safely at 140 mph. However if you are the type of driver that will never plan on going that fast because its not safe and it will cause you to lose your license, then you don't need anything higher than a T rated tire. Don't listen to the guy that says never go under what your car came with, thats just bull. A good performance all season tire is Hercules. Great tires that will last a long time.

That is incorect information and that info has gotten tire dealers in leagal trouble in the past. If a dealer installs a tire with a lower rating than what came on the vehicle and the vehicle is in an accident, the dealer can potentially be heal liable for this accident.

It's a misconception that this is just a rating of top speed. As I previously noted it is also an indication of the tire's handling capabilities at every day speeds. By installing a lower rated tire, you are adversely effecting the way the car will react in an emergency maneuver at any speed.

No one has to listen to me of course. People do put lower rated tires on their car, but that's their decision if they want to risk their safety.

If you don't believe me ask your Volvo dealer or any other reputable tire dealer and they will tell you the same thing. People that want to sell you a lower rated tire are just out to "make the sale" and they really don't care about safety or the reprecussions of the sale.

My car originally came with W rated tires, when it was time to replace them I found a set in the same size but T rated. I found the tires to be just as good, actually they lasted alot longer than my original set. But handling was still great. My car has an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph so if I ever drove that fast then it would be unsafe to do it with T rated tires, but I never do so a T rated tire is more than safe for driving at legal limits. Even in situations where I had to perform evasive maneouvers, the T rated tires still handled great with plenty of response, even with 5 people in the car. I just wouldn't mix diferent speed ratings on the same car.
