I just noticed broken wire mesh (frayed cable?) sticking out of a front tire on my Toyota Highlander. Tires are original, vehicle has 11,000 miles on it, and I always try to drive conservatively. Exact model is Toyo Tranpath A11, 225/70/R16. I'm no detective or nuthin but when the inside of the tire is on the outside, I think it's time to investigate. Are there any known problems with this tire? Any news would be appreciated.

Thanks,
derek

My A11's on a Highlander are almost worn out at 18k miles. Also strange rear alignment problem with the tire.

I too question the quality of the Toyo tranpath A11. My 05 Highlander just turned 10K and while I was scrubbing the tire with a nylon brush the tire came off on the brush!! Yikes! I especiall love the "No MILEAGE WARRANTY" Must be another word for "tough cookies". I guess all I have to look forward to is replacing them. Thanks for letting me vent.

thanks,
elaine

Mine, also on a 2004 Highlander, wore out at 23,000 miles. I think it's shameful for Toyota, the company known for reliable vehicles, to install such an obviously inferior tire on its products. I suggest that everyone with issues about this tire contact Toyo's customer service department at 888-444-8696.

Just had the oil changed in my 2005 Highlander at the Toyota dealer and at 26,000 miles I was informed I need new tires. Same tires as all the other posts -- Toyo Tranpath A11 P225/70R16. The tire has a treadwear rating of 300.

at 9K miles, my wife's (2006 Highlander) Toyo Tranpath A11 tires are completely worn.

She wanted to take the Highlander on a 2K trek to see her sister.
I need to replace the tires first (in case she hits rain, or need to maneuver).

How can TOYOTA allow this?
A mark against them in my future "word of mouth"

After driving 13,000 miles under average conditions during two years in my 2004 Toyota highlander, I was told by my mechanic that I would have to replace all 4 of my Tranpath A11 225/70/16 tires! And they would not pass inspection. He said that Toyo makes a good tire, "but the Tranpath A11 is a worthless piece of junk"! How can Toyota put such crap on a new car. I'm glad I'm not the only one who's having this problem...

I took my 06 Highlander that I've had less than a year in today to have the tires rotated. I am at about 9K miles (3K more than what Toyota suggests as the time to rotate - but, hey, what can a busy girl do??) The manager at Discount Tire told me that the FRONT tires were in need of replacement due to tread wear, but the back were okay. When I investigated, the tread wear is obviously different from front to back. When I called the dealership, the sales manager was obliging, but pointed out that the tires need to be rotated every 2K miles!! I am going in to visit with him next week with documentation of other's problems in hand. I doubt anything will happen -- other than me dropping a few hundred on decent tires -- but I figured it may be worth a shot.

I have similar issues with wear out on my Toyo Tranpath tires as well only got 21,000 miles! I did some simple research and found that the tires only have a 300 tread wear rating!! I looked at my other cars tires - an Acura RSX and it has the same rating for tread wear 300!! And that car has on performance tires!! The UTQG rating of the Toyo Tranpath P225/70R16 is 300 B B. Why are they using so soft tires on a SUV?!?! I called Toyo customer service to get some info on the tires. I was told that on original equipment tires they don't come with any type of mileage or tread wear warranty because the tire company makes the tire from info they are given by the car company. So they only have a warranty for workmanship and materials that's it. I was also told that other tire companies have the same warranty on original equipment tires. I was not to happy with this info and I did not think this was correct. So, I called a few other tire companies and asked about the tire warranty on original equipment tires. To make things short. Yes they all have a similar warranty as Toyo's!! I also found that 300 tread rating was a soft tread and may wear out fast. I think we should be told that by our dealer so we would have an idea how soft the tires are. Or some kind of option to change to a tire that can last longer.!!

I will never buy Toyota again.

After receiving tires that showed WEAR after 6K, after calling Toyo and being told they did NOT recommend the Tranpath for Highlander (and they wanted to upsell me), after replacing all four worn tires at 13K miles.

"Word of mouth" is the new marketing sensation (especially via the Internet)

I will continue to use my influence and tell the story of the BAD Toyota brand.

Job NOT well-done, Toyota.
Shame on you for putting my wife and kids at risk.

My '06 Toyota Highlander came with Toyo Transpath A11 tires (treadware rating 300) and now with 19k miles tires need replacement. I searched online looking to see if I was the only one with this problem, and was not surprised to find these listings. I agreed with the post suggesting that everyone with issues about this tire contact Toyo's customer service department at 888-444-8696.

Have the toyo brand tires like everyone else, they lasted 50K miles, I have the 4wd highlander and rotated them at recommended times. Seems to me the 2wd (Front wheel drive) highlanders tend to wear out the front tires faster than 4wd, especially if you don't rotate. 300 rating is soft and will wear quicker, BUT it gives you a good soft ride, hope you complainers replaced your tires with rock hard tires so your kids are being rattled around in the back and their teeth fall out. Toyota is a great brand, I love How you fault them for consumable items like TIRES from other manufacturers. Dumbas*es.

PS I don't work for Toyota, I work for Ford. check out the tires they put on a Ford Minivan, they won't get you 5k miles.
