I'm looking for new tires for my 2001 Olds Intrigue. OEM tires are Goodyear Eagle LS 225 60 16. Don't like them. I drive almost 100 mostly highway miles a day, in all kinds of conditions. Considering all season high performance tires such as Dunlop sp sport A2, Dunlop sp sport 5000 asymmertical, or Bridgestone Potenza RE 950. Considering a lower wider profile tire such as a 255 50 16. Only a minor diameter change. Any help/ suggestions would be appreciated.

the Bridgestone RE 950 is probably the best of the three you listed. going to a 255 tire will probably rub on sharp turns. i would look at a 235 width if you really want a slightly wider tire. a closer fit to your idea is a 235/55R16 but this is not a popular size. tirerack.com only lists two tires in that size that are least H speed rated. wider tires may look a little nicer and help your car stop shorter distances and handle better in dry weather but will perform worse in rain and snow. in 245 size, a very close size to stock is 245/55R16 and tirerack.com has only one tire in that size and 59 tires in your stock size.

Hello,
Thanks for your advice. I'm probably going to go with the stock size in the Bridgestone RE 950 as you suggest. I really value the all season capability over what likely is minor trade off in dry road handling and appearance. Any other tire I should be considering?

I just put a set of Dunlop sp Sport A2's on my 2001 Alero. Great ratings, especially for the price, from the Tire Rack. So far, I'm real happy with them; have dry and limited wet exposure so far, no snow.

Thanks for the recommendation. You are right, based on the positive responses at tirerack.com they do seem to be a great value. Were the OEM tires on your Alero also Eagle LS? If so did you have cupping or scaloping problems with them? I'm finding out (the hard way of course!) that frequent tire rotations help minimize that.
