I am looking for new tires for my '97 BMW 740il. I have Michelin MSV4 on now and they have been a good tire. However, when researching a web site for ordering I discovered the Dunlop SP Sport A2 is $45.00 per tire cheaper and gets a higher overall rating for performance, traction everything! I was sold unitl I spoke with a tire installer and they hands down recommended I go with the Michelin again! What am I missing here?

I just got Dunlop SP Sport A2s on my car and I like them alot. They came very highly recommended by several dealers. The ride is gripping and sure-footed. It is a harder ride, maybe because I got new struts too. I'm happy with my Dunlop Sport A2s

I'm not trying to be rude, but it just confounds me to learn about so many people who spend a fortune on their cars, and then skimp on tires. The way I see it is if you can afford to drive a car that costs more than 65 grand, you can definitely afford Michelins. Isn't it a little late to now worry about saving money? Sure, the Dunlops may be a better value, but so is a Lexus. Again, I don't have anything against luxury cars, BMW'w or you, and I'm not flaming you.

No offense taken. The reason I can afford a $70,000 automobile is that I shop wisely for value. Now, do you know anything about the Dunlop?

I read on a Camry forum about a Solara owner that replaced his worn out SP5000's with Sport A2's and said that the A2's were noisier than the 5000's, but wore better. Don't know how they compare to the MXV4 though.

Thanks for the update. I really do appreciate it. Have you ever checked out the comparisons on TireRack.com ? The tread wear information you have is supported there.
