Topic: Tires for my 99 Jeep Cherokee

Time to get new tires (225 75R 15). Just started researching, & am considering either the Michelin Cross Terrain or the Dunlop Radial Rover A/T. Can get them for about the same price. All highway miles, hardly off road. Any comments on these or others would be greatly appreciated. IP: Logged |

I really don't like either compared to the Bridgestone Dueler H/L which is definitely more of a smoother highway tire for SUVs. They last awhile too and don't cost a lot either.IP: Logged |

They're both good tires, and pretty equal in all categories. We sell more Dunlop's because they tend to be less expensive. The Dueller H/L would be smoother riding, but it won't give you the wet (or snow) traction of the other two. ------------------

in customer survey results, the Bridgestone outperforms the Dunlop in wet traction. Yes, the Michelin has the highest overall ratings. It also costs around $140 more per set of tires. The Dunlop cost the least but are not as quiet as the Bridgestone. If you want to pay the extra to get the best, then go with the Michelin. And if you live where you have some snow, then the Bridgestone will fall below the other two in snow traction.IP: Logged |

Holy Cow! If a shop is charging you the same price for Michelin and Dunlop, I'd be all over the Michelin's.The Dunlop should be significantly cheaper than the Michelin, which is prolly the most expensive tire in it's class. But I'd be concerned that my shop was overcharging me on everything, not just Dunlop tires. IP: Logged |

I replaced the Goodyear Wrangler 225/75/15's on my '94 Jeep Grand Cherokee with Michelin LTX A/T's in a 235/75/15. Ride, handling, and traction was much improved. Michelins ARE more expensive, but they're worth it. If I didn't need good snow traction, I'd put on the LTX M/S. The Cross Terrain is a newer tire. I don't know much about that one.IP: Logged |

The price I got on the Michelin's was at BJ's Wholesale Club. It also included a $50 rebate when you buy 4. That put the price in line with the Dunlops, priced at a retail tire store near me.I think the price quoted for the Dunlops was high. The worst quote was for Goodyear Wrangler's (RT/S). I couldn't wait to get those off my Jeep, but wanted to price them for the hell of it. Over $100 more than the Michelins, what a joke. IP: Logged |
