I have a 99 GMC Suburban 1500 4X4 with 245/75/R16's and would like to go with bigger tires. What is the biggest size I can go with and not have any problems?

Being a newer vehicle, you have to take into account gearing for your transmission if it is an automatic. It will shift via the OBD II computer. Also newer cars with ABS are touchy about different sized tires. Fender clearance is the old stand by to be careful about. I know a 255/70R16 will fit your GMC. You may easily be able to fit larger but it may mess with your tranny and ABS. powerdog.com has a tire calculator that let's you see how much difference in percentage different sized tires are. Definitely ask anyone you see with the same truck who has larger tires. Some of the technicians at GM have probably seen or heard of various tire upgrades also.

No problem going to a 265/75r16. The 1/2 tons have it as an option. You just have to get GM to calibrate the computer with the Tech2 scanner (literally takes about a minute). With a 4x4 you will have at least a 3.73 gear ratio. You might notice a slight decrease in acceleration though. A 285/75r16 will fit no problem, but, performance will drop off somewhat more.
