Need quick response. Need to purchase replacement tires. Have narrowed to Michelin XCX APT(Sears),Dunlop Rover AT, or Michelin's at Costco. Most important issue is handling in rain on fast interstate driving. SAFETY and Quiet Ride! ThanksIP: Logged |

I have a set of Goodyear GSAs (from Sears) on my 1992 Explorer (pushing 114,000 miles). Fortunately, I missed all the brouhaha with the Firestone ATXs since I replaced them at around 50,000 miles several years ago. The Firestone tires are no comparison. The GSAs have outstanding traction in the snow and have very good grip on wet pavement (a common situation here in Seattle). I also got pretty good wear with them as well having replaced the front pair last winter after more than 50,000 miles. I would have gotten a lot more if I had kept the front-end aligned better. The two on the rear are still good to go for another 10-20k or so (would be more than 70,000 miles). While they aren’t as quiet on the highway as I would like, they’re still not bad. And they are a LOT quieter than the ATXs the truck had on it before. My only complaint is that they got pretty noisy as they began to wear out. Sounded like a bad bearing. Still, that’s not much of a problem since they needed to be replaced anyway. Incidentally, I upgraded from 235/75-15s to 245/70-15s. Same diameter, but a slightly wider tread.Anyway, I know this doesn't directly answer your question, but I highly recommend the GSAs. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I have General Grabber AT's on my Ranger and really like them. They look great on the truck and even though they have an agressive all terrain tread pattern, they are still quiet, smooth riding and handle great on wet or dry pavement. I haven't had them long enough to predict treadwear but I have heard they are lasting people from 50K - 65K miles.IP: Logged | |
