I've read that all tires have this manufacturing code that indicates the factory/country of manufacturer as well as the year and week when the tire was made. For example, the code on my Bridgestone Turanza Revos are K9601: K for some factory in Japan, 96 for 1996, and 01 for the first week in that year. My problem is that I bought these tires in 1999!, three years after they were manufactured. Not only that, but I know for a fact that Revos were NOT available in 1996! Am I being gypped here? Did Bridgestone take some old Turanzas from 1996 that they couldn't sell, slap a new "UNI-T-AQ" tread on and stamp a "Revo" label on it to sell it to me as a "new and improved" model? I don't trust Bridgestone/Firestone anymore. Is there a regulatory agency that I can take this issue to?

The K9601 you refer to is not the date code.
Look for the letters 'DOT' followed by either 10 or 11 digits (letters and numbers).
The last 3 or 4 digits are the date code - 096 would be the 9th week of 1996. For 2000, the number has been expanded to 4 digits - 0900 would be the 9th week of 2000

Mark is right. Look for the letters DOT and then write down the numbers and letters that follow it. The first two letters or letter and number is the factory and place it was made. The last 3 numbers in the code is the date it was made. The first two numbers is the week and the last number is the year. Here is a site that tells you how to read the DOT codes. http://www.gglotus.org/ggtech/tirerat.htm
