We go to the mountains a couple of times a season during the winter. Unfortunately, you can sometimes encounter serious snow and ice conditions at the higher elevations. Ideally, I'd like to throw serious rims and snow tires on the car just prior to entering the snowline and then take them off on the way down. But this isn't an ideal world. So far, I haven't been real happy with the performance of the Continental M+S tires that came with the car and would like to put some better tires on there for this coming winter season. What are your recommendations? Thanks!

Consider Nokian NRW-H. H-rated, great in rain and very good in snow. I also like them on dry roads, although I'm sure they don't match pure performance tires. But you don't have performance tires on now, anyway!
