Do you have those Firestone "Violent Death" tires on YOUR Ford Explorer or other vehicle? They are Firestone Wilderness AT, ATX, or ATX II.However, the "Violent Death" models must be verified by checking on the INSIDE of the tire for the serial number, which will be preceded by the prefix "VD-- XXXXX" This information was provided by an unhappy Firestone dealer here in the St. Louis area. Last year, our new '99 Ford Explorer had an unexplainably severe tire blowout with less than 200 miles usage. Fortunately, it was a rear tire and we were able to leave the interstate safely and await AAA auto service. I checked yesterday to find they are marked "VDH1 xxxx, s/n xxx" Now we know why! I did have the Firestone ATX model. As of today I am the proud owner of a brand new set, (5 counting the spart tire) of Michelin LTX M/S. I absolutely love these tires. My Explorer is so happy to have met them.!!!! I feel much safer. But always plan to keep a check on the air pressure and keep them rotated. IP: Logged |
