I need to replace the tires on a 95 Explorer. It has Wrangler RT/S now. Need good snow and rain tire for highway use. Had trouble with rear sliding in past. Appreciate any recommendations. IP: Logged |

if you would like a quieter ride then go with a good touring tire(check them out at tirerack.com) no you do not need "suv" tires. i also have a '95 explorer. i bought dunlop sport rover gtx2 tires and they lasted 50,000 miles. next, i am going to get some good touring tires. the rear will slide out while accelerating from a right turn because they have 3.73 rear gears, sit high, and even my dunlop slip sometimes. if you want real sticky higher performance suv tires, then go with the Pirelli Scorpion(you can't beat them-no better tire made for our explorers that i ever heard of) good luck.IP: Logged |

Don is right about the Pirelli's. I have some Firestone Wilderness's on now (5,000 miles) and just waiting for them to blow...IP: Logged |

I just bought a set of Michelin LTX M/S for my Explorer (94). I like them very much, waiting to see how well they perform in the rain. Had the Sorry Firestone ATX's. Not a good tire at all. Just good looks. I talked to several dealers and from all information on the internet. Including a guy who works for Ford. Not one person would recommend anything other than this particular tire. For me it was between this tire and the Pirelli Scorpions. But was not as good. You know the old saying. Sometimes you really do get what you pay for $$$.IP: Logged |
